Syllabus RRB NTPC Exam - Latest Syllabus

RRB NTPC Exam:

The Railway Recruitment Board - Non Technical Popular Category (RRB-NTPC) is an online test for the recruitment of various posts in the Indian Railways like clerk cum typist, goods guard, TA, and CA, etc.

It requires candidates to crack a written exam first and those qualifying written are called for an interview. From this year (2016), the process has been changed and the written exam has been replaced by online exam.

RRB NTPC 2016 Eligibility:

Nationality
- The aspirant must be a citizen of India.

Educational Qualification
- The candidate should be Graduate from a college or university recognized by the Central Government.
- For Specific posts like Senior Clerk, and Senior Time Keeper, etc. candidates need to be proficient in Hindi / English typing.

RRB NTPC 2016 Age Limit:

The candidates applying for the exam must be between 18 to 32 years of age as on 01.01.2016.

For candidates belonging to SC and ST category, they will be eligible for age relaxation of 5 years and the OBC candidates get 3 years of age relaxation.

RRB NTPC Exam Schedule:

The RRB NTPC exam usually starts from March to May. This year the exam was from 5th March, 2016 to 15th May, 2016.

RRB has changed the exam pattern from written to computer based from this year.

RRB NTPC Exam Syllabus:

RRB NTPC Syllabus is divided into 4 major sections:

General Awareness
General Science
Reasoning Ability
Arithmetic Ability

RRB NTPC Syllabus for Arithmetic Ability:

This section includes questions from various topics such as - Data Interpretation, Profit Loss, Linear/Quadratic Equations, and Trigonometry, etc.

Important Topics in the Arithmetic Ability Section:
Data Interpretation - Expected number of questions are 5-10.
Time, Work & Distance - Expected number of questions are 1-2.
Profit Loss - Expected number of questions are 3-4.
Simple/Compound Interest - Expected number of questions are 1-2.
Averages/Simplification/Speed Calculation - Expected number of questions are 3-4.
Area and Volume - Expected number of questions are 1-2.
Linear/Quadratic Equations - Expected number of questions are 1-2.
Trigonometry - Expected number of questions are 1-2.
Miscellaneous - Expected number of questions are 3-4.

RRB NTPC Syllabus for Reasoning Ability:

This section includes questions from various topics such as - Usual Reasoning, Visual Reasoning, and High-Level Reasoning.

Important Topics in the Usual Reasoning Section:
Sitting/Circular/Linear/Puzzle Arrangement - Expected number of questions are 10.
Analogy/Classification - Expected number of questions are 1-2.
Series - Expected number of questions are 3-4.
Blood Relation and Direction - Expected number of questions are 1-2.
Decision Making, Problem Solving, Eligibility Test - Expected number of questions are 1-2.

Important Topics in the Visual Reasoning Section:
Hidden, Embedded, Mirror, Water Images, Patterns, Matrix, Miscellaneous - Expected number of questions are 7-10.

Important Topics in the High-Level Reasoning Section:
Statement Conclusion, Interference, Assumption - Expected number of questions are 1-2.
Syllogism - Expected number of questions are 5.

RRB NTPC Syllabus for General Awareness:

This section includes questions from various topics such as - Economy, Polity, History, Geography, Railways Related facts and figures, and Currents Affairs.

Important Topics in the Currents Affairs Section:
National and International, Sports, Science & Technology - Expected number of questions are 5-7.

Important Topics in the Economy Section:
Economic Terms & Theories - Expected number of questions are 1-2.

Important Topics in the Polity Section:
Terms, Theories, Constitution of India, Designation and Powers, Duties and Rights - Expected number of questions are 1-2.

Important Topics in the History Section:
Indian History (Ancient Indian History, Medieval, Modern) - Expected number of questions are 3-5.

Important Topics in the Geography Section:
Indian Geography - Expected number of questions are 3-5.

Important Topics in the Railways Related Section:
History, Facts & Figures - Expected number of questions are 3-5.

RRB NTPC Syllabus for General Science:

This section includes questions from various topics such as - Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Environmental Studies.

Physics up to 10th Standard - Expected number of questions are 5-7.
Chemistry up to 10th Standard - Expected number of questions are 5-7.
Biology up to 10th Standard - Expected number of questions are 5-7.
Environmental Studies up to 10th Standard - Expected number of questions are 5-7.

RRB NTPC Exam Pattern 2016:

The RRB NTPC exam was conducted online for the first time.

Sectional Analysis
General Awareness - This section was quite moderate to easy with a lot of scope for candidates to score.
General Science - This section had questions which were moderate.
Reasoning Ability - As expected this section was easy to moderate.
Arithmetic Ability - This section was moderate and especially for students good at maths can score a lot.

This year more than 1 crore candidates appeared for the online exam.

RRB NTPC Cutoff Analysis 2016:

Phase 1 of Examination: (Refer to the table on the right)

The cutoff marks this year were low compared to the previous year which enabled more candidates to get shortlisted.

Phase 2 of Examination:

- As expected, the phase 2 of this year's exam was a bit challenging with total 120 questions covering three sections:
- General Awareness
- Reasoning/General Intelligence
- Quantitative Aptitude
- The candidates had to complete the exam in 90 minutes which is less than a minute per question.

Aspirants preparing for the next year should focus on speed and accuracy.
