Constitutional Bodies

Constitutional bodies in India are the bodies or institutes that have its name mentioned in Indian constitution. It derives power directly from the constitution. Any type of change in mechanism of these bodies needs constitutional amendment.

Examples of Constitutional Bodies

1. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC)
2. State Public Service Commission
3. Joint State Public Service Commission
4. The Comptroller And Auditor General Of India
5. Election Commission Of India
6. Finance Commission Of India

Features

1. The Constitutional bodies are mostly executive in nature, with the power of advising the government vested in them.

2. Ensuring effective functioning of the government is the main objective behind the establishment of these bodies.

3. While some are permanent agencies, there are a few ad hoc bodies as well, which are established for a fixed term.

4. The constitutional bodies not only uphold the principles of the Constitution but also help government machinery to run smoothly.

Non Constitutional Bodies

Non- Constitutional bodies are the institutions/ bodies that are established either by an executive resolution of the Government of India or by a legislation enacted by the Parliament or even by any official Gazette notification issued by the Central Government.

Examples of Non Constitutional Bodies

1. Planning commission
2. National development council
3. National human rights commission
4. Central vigilance commission
5. Lokpal & Lokayukta
